Performance SEO

If you are a business owner or a manager, chances are you have already worked with, or at least have been approached by, an SEO agency. It’s also very likely that they left you very disappointed, with a feeling that you just wasted time and money. Otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this article, I guess.

SEO is probably the best long-term online marketing strategy. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the companies selling SEO services do not deliver at all! I’ve been in the business for 7 years and I can say this with 100% confidence.

It was about time for a change!

The new era of pay-per-performance SEO is coming. It’s a long overdue change, where you are going to pay only for results. No monthly fees, no contracts and absolutely zero risk for business owners like you.

You might think it sounds too good to be true, but believe me, at the end of the article you will see for yourself how simple and logical this is.

What is the problem with the old SEO?

Setup fee, monthly payments, six- to twelve-month minimum contracts, questionable results … does this sounds familiar?

It’s all part of the old school SEO that is way overpriced and not efficient at all.

Here is how most of the SEO agencies work.

You have been told that it takes about 6 months in order for your website to appear at Google’s top positions. During that time, the SEO company will perform various highly efficient activities like: social bookmarking, link-building, onpage optimization, content revision, side audits, etc. Plus a whole bunch of other activities, explained in fancy SEO lingo, which makes the SEO agency look more credible in your eyes.

The deadline comes and 6 months later, the effect is almost zero. The agency is going to tell you that: there was some new Google algorithm change, your website needs to be redesigned, you were a victim of somebody sending you bad links, etc… All of these things were out of their hands, so they were not able to properly optimize your website, and they need more time.

Congrats, you just wasted money and time for nothing. And, unfortunately, that’s how most of the SEO agencies operate.

It’s about time that all of this should be changed!

How the new SEO should look?

Setup fee, monthly payments, six- to twelve-month minimum contracts, questionable results … does this sounds familiar?

It’s all part of the old school SEO that is way overpriced and not efficient at all.

Here is how most of the SEO agencies work.

You have been told that it takes about 6 months in order for your website to appear at Google’s top positions. Congrats, you just wasted money and time for nothing. And, unfortunately, that’s how most of the SEO agencies operate.

It’s about time that all of this should be changed!

  • It’s a perfect way to seed out the bad companies in the industry. If they can’t gaurantee you rankings, that means they don’t know what they are  doing.
  • The performance SEO agency has much bigger interest in ranking you faster. With the pay – per – rank model, the agency puts alot of resources upfront, so it’s in their best interest to achieve the desired rankings as fast as possible. This is contrary to the old SEO model, where most of the agencies procrastinate, so they can collect more monthly retainer fees.
  • Zero investment needed. When you have better rankings, you should have more potential clients. Basically these new clients that you will get will pay for the SEO services.
  • Zero risk for the client.

How to easily calculate your ROI

The beauty of this model is that you can calculate very accurately your Return On Investment (ROI). This is also the only online marketing strategy, that guarantees you positive ROI.

In order to calculate your ROI, you need to know 4 things:

  1. How many people are actually looking for your service / product.
  2. The number of customers you could potentially convert.
  3. How much your profit is from each new customer.
  4. What’s the cost you will be paying for performance SEO.

Let’s say you are a plastic surgeon in Chicago, offering primarily breast augmentation procedures. You want to acquire more customers who are interested in getting breast implants.

The users, more likely to be interested in such procedure, are these who are actively searching in Google/Bing with related terms.

It really depends on what stage of the sales funnel the customer is currently at, but she will usually start the search with some broader terms like “breast augmentation Chicago”, “breast augmentation Chicago price”, etc.
Then she might narrow the search and try “the best breast augmentation Chicago” or “the best breast augmentation Chicago reviews”.

How many people are looking for services / products like yours?

Just to make it easier, let’s consider only one of these keywords. According to Google, there are 1,190 people searching with keywords like “breast augmentation Chicago”.

Again, these are not just some random visitors, but ones who are actively searching with the words “breast augmentation Chicago”. That means they are very likely to be interested in your services.

On average, 30% of all users click on the websites ranked at the first 3 positions in Google. So once your website starts to rank at top 3, for “breast augmentation Chicago”, every month, you will be getting about 357 potential customers.

How many new customers could you get?

Of course, there is no way to convert all of these visitors to customers, unless you offer something truly unique that nobody else’s. The chances are that some of these users will be just looking for information, others won’t like your pricing, some will prefer your competitor, etc.

However despite all of that, you can agree that closing just 5% of these visitors (very pessimistic), is absolutely doable.

That means you will be getting 17 new clients every month (357 visitors at a 5% conversion rate).

How much is your profit from each new client?

The breast augmentation procedure usually costs about $5,000. I am guessing the profit margin is at least 50%, so that makes $2,500 per treatment.

17 new clients X $2,500 profit =  $42,500. And this is without including the fact that, if they like your service they will come back again, or recommend you to a friend.

How much will you pay for performance marketing?

As I mentioned earlier, with Performance SEO, you are paying only for results. That means you will only be charged, once your desired keyword is reached top 3, top 10, top 16 or top 30.

With this tool, you can easily check how much would it would cost you to rank your website for a given keyword.

For our example, we want to rank at top 3 for “breast augmentation Chicago”, which costs $620 per month.

What is the final ROI?

So for $620 per month we are getting 17 new customers which results in profit of $42,500.
From that, point the ROI can be calculated petty easy:

(Profit – SEO Investment) ÷ SEO Investment = ROI

($42,500 – $620) ÷ $620 = 6,700%

Not bad, eh? Considering the fact that the risk is 0, that is one hell of a ROI.

Conclusion

I hope this was useful for you and now you have one more idea on how to boost your business in 2017. The model I explained above applies to any kind of business. Just follow the steps and do a quick calculation on what could be your business’s ROI.

It’s never too late to start with SEO, especially when there is no risk for you. So, are you up for giving your business a boost?
